Venetian Heritage purchased and donated to the Museum of Palazzo Grimani the portrait of Giovanni Grimani (1506 – 1593), Patriarch of Aquileia and one of the most illustrious exponents of the Venetian patrician family. We owe him the current layout of the building in Santa Maria Formosa and the statuary collection preserved in the Tribuna. The acquisition of the portrait, attributed to Domenico Tintoretto and dated to the early 17th century, is part of the exceptional exhibition DOMUS GRIMANI 1594 – 2019, which celebrated in 2019 the return at Palazzo Grimani of the collection of classical statues after more than four centuries. Venetian Heritage not only funded the acquisition of the painting, but it also funded its restoration, thanks to the generous donation of Emilio Ambasz. The enterprise, combining the protection and enhancement of the national artistic heritage represented, once again, an example of a virtuous collaboration between the public and private spheres. The artwork is now permanently exhibited in the Sala a Fogliami of Palazzo Grimani.
