Project Description

Canova, Hayez, Cicognara. The last glory of Venice
Marsilio, Venice 2017
Venetian Heritage has co-financed the publication of the catalog of the exhibition Canova, Hayez, Cicognara. The Last Glory of Venice, which commemorates the bicentenary of the opening of the museum of the Gallerie dell’Accademia and a special moment in the artistic history of the city of Venice.
Indeed, the exhibition celebrates a crucial moment in the Serenissima’s artistic history: the beginning of a new cultural season opened in 1815 with the return from Paris of the Horses of Saint Mark (which were originally placed on the facade of St. Mark’s Basilica and now are placed inside the Basilica for conservative purposes).
