The Morgan & Library Museum

A masterpiece of the Venetian Renaissance returns to the spotlight at the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ d’Oro. Giovanni Bellini’s Pietà (or Dead Christ Supported by Four Angels)—normally housed in the Museo della Città di Rimini—will be exhibited in Venice for the first time since 1949, following a major conservation project promoted and funded by Venetian Heritage.
For 26 years, our international non-profit organization, based in Venice and New York, has supported cultural initiatives through restorations, exhibitions, publications, conferences, and research, with the mission of promoting and preserving the extraordinary artistic heritage of the Veneto region and of the territories that once belonged to the Serenissima.

The Pietà will be the focus of a special dossier exhibition, open to the public from 21 November 2025 to 6 January 2026, where it will be presented in dialogue with the Saint Sebastian by Andrea Mantegna (Isola di Carturo, 1431 – Mantua, 1506). The exhibition is curated by Toto Bergamo Rossi, Director of Venetian Heritage, and Giovanni Sassu, former Director of the Museo della Città di Rimini Luigi Tonini and currently Director of the Museums of Cento.

The project is promoted by Venetian Heritage, the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Veneto, the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ d’Oro, Rimini Musei, and The Morgan Library & Museum, New York.

The Morgan Library will play a central role in the international promotion of the restoration by hosting an American chapter of the exhibition from 15 January to 19 April 2026, where the Pietà will be showcased alongside masterpieces from the Morgan’s renowned collection.

After its presentation in New York, the painting will return to the Museo della Città di Rimini, where it will be displayed together with Mantegna’s Saint Sebastian.
This initiative is made possible by the temporary closure of the Ca’ d’Oro for the final phase of its renovation, also funded by Venetian Heritage.
